RGM-79N GM Custom

Synopsis: The GM Custom is one of those GM designs that is very appealing. So when the 0083 designs were being given the MSiA treatment this unit was sought after and although a lot of the 0083 MSiAs have gotten more negative reviews by other sites the GM custom is usually spared such bad reviews. In fact as far as GM designs made so far this on is one of the better made but you can be the judge after the review.

The Figure: The overall color of the GM Custom can be a little troubling for some, the color is similar to what most call toothpaste green. The head is well detailed and well painted. The head can rotate 360 degrees and the head can tilt up and down better then most MSiAs made so far. This great range of motion is due in part to the ball joint connecting the head to the body. The antenna can warp but careful storage can prevent that.

The arms are well articulated. The shoulder armor doesn't hinder movement and the arms can spread out to show the GM's armspan a feat that can't be done by most other MSiAs. The elbows bend in a decent manner providing 90 degrees range of motion. The back of the forearm has a slot to fit the shield. Since this is a domestic release this figure didn't have spare hands so the ones present are a right gun hand and a left sword hand. Both hands can hold the beam saber and shield effectively.

The legs are more hindered in movement then the rest of the body. The hip armor can be a hindrance to this movement although the skirt armor is flexible enough to allow a reasonable movement except on the side skirt armor. The knee range of motion is within about 90 degrees. The ankle is free of any restrictive ankle armor due to the design of the unit.

The torso is well painted and detailed however the skirt armor hinders torso rotation. The backpack looks like the exact sculpt of the Gundam Alex's Backpack minus one saber hilt storage hole. The backpack features 2 movable thrusters and a removable Beam Saber hilt. The Backpack is removable connected by three pegs.

The Accessories:

90mm machine gun: This is the default GM Machinegun used by most GMs and found in the old GM/Ball release. The only difference between the old and new releases is the flexible material used in this release.

90mm GM Rifle: This is a really neat looking rifle. The flexible plastic made in this rifle can serve as a problem in the barrel which can lead to barrel warping.

Shield: This shield is well painted and can either be carried at the handle or be placed in the slot in the back of the GM Custom's forearm. To place the shield on the forearm efficiently the handle needs to be removed.

Beam Saber: The GM Custom came with 2 Beam saber hilts both of which are interchangeable with the backpack or the single beam blade. The beam saber hilt is pretty large and can be held by two handed easily.

Play Value: Grunt suits are always nice to have to play with and this one is well made and with a decent Accessory loadout. So the play value for the figure is well made.

Display Value: The design of this figure looks modern enough to call attention however the toothpaste-like green color can prompt some questionsand comments.

Dollar Value: A good buy for a standard figure. Great articulation and a decent accessory loadout make this a worthwhile figure.

Conclusion: One of the best GM figures made despite the color.
